I think we can all agree:

The first visit to an orthodontist’s office is a little intimidating.

But at Simister Orthodontics, we believe the first experience should be a good one.

Let’s discuss a timeline of the first visit and what to expect as a new patient.

First things first

We are always excited about meeting new patients during their first visit to our family orthodontics office. The initial appointment will consist of a thorough examination and a discussion of potential treatment options.

How long will it last?

The first visit is a very important one!

But here’s the deal: your time is valuable.

That’s why the initial visit should last no longer than about 30 minutes. This gives us an opportunity to meet each other and determine your orthodontic needs.

Family orthodontist checks patient's teeth

As a family friendly orthodontics office, we know how valuable time can be. To expedite treatment, we may also reserve time following the exam for diagnostic records. These records include X-rays, photos and impressions for study models.

Why is that necessary?

This all helps with the development of an appropriate treatment plan for each patient. This additional appointment will last approximately one hour.

What questions will we ask?

During the initial examination for each patient, we will address the following questions that cover the basics of family orthodontic treatment:

  • Is there a condition that orthodontics can address?
  • Is treatment needed now or should treatment be delayed until appropriate growth, tooth eruption or other factors have occurred?
  • What treatment procedures will be used to correct the problem?
  • Do any permanent teeth need to be removed?
  • How long will treatment take?
  • How much will it cost?
  • What are my payment options?

Have questions for us?

Don’t hesitate to ask questions! We encourage that!

Isn’t that a lot to do in one meeting?

You might be wondering: can all these questions be answered during the first visit?

While we can often answer most of these general questions about treatment during the initial examination, we will address specific areas after careful analysis of the diagnostic records. It is important to analyze each patient’s specific needs, because in-depth planning leads to superior results and higher patient satisfaction.

Setting a plan: the next step

After our initial meeting, we will schedule a consultation visit to discuss treatment options, time frames and financial arrangements. As a premier orthodontists office in Las Vegas, we insist that our patients leave the office with a clear understanding of their specific needs, what the treatment will consist of, and how long it will take.

What should you bring?

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your first visit:

  • Any panoramic X-ray taken within the past six months.
  • If you have orthodontic insurance, bring your insurance card. By providing this information at the first visit, we will be able to give you an estimate of your costs.
